She wore blueeeeee velllllvettttt……bluer than velvet was the niiiiiighttt…….
Ms. Gents here. Sorry about that, but that’s all I could think of when I tried Ciate Velvet Manicure in Blue Suede. (If you’re not old-timey like me, here’s what I’m talking about)
I’m a true believer in the Treat Yo’ Self movement, so I stopped by my local Sephora and purchased this kit for $19.
The kit contains a full-size Ciate Paint Pot polish in 3am Girl, a large vial of the velvet fluff, a black brush, and a plastic tray.
Application is simple:
1. Prep your nails like always
2. Apply one coat of the polish, allow it to dry.
3. One finger at a time, apply a second coat of polish and immediately sprinkle the fluff onto the nail.
4. Carry on with your day.
As you can see, some nails look lusher than others. This is due to the fact that this was my first application, but you can pat extra fluff onto the nail when it falls into the plastic tray.
Weirdly I thought this manicure would fall apart as soon as I showered or washed my hands, but I did both things about an hour and a half after application and it held up very well. The velvet dries quickly after washing and stays put for days. Removal was as easy as typical polish.
As you can see from the photo, that is enough fluff to last a lifetime, so if you’re fretting about the price just think about how many applications you’ll get out of it. I used less than a quarter-sized lump of fluff for this manicure.
I will say the one thing I didn’t enjoy about this manicure was folding laundry with it; the fluff rubs against the clothes in a way that made my teeth hurt.
All in all, I highly recommend this kit and am looking forward to breaking it out again for the holidays. Is this something you’re willing to try?

I don’t have much respect for Ciate as a company (to get that out there) so I wouldn’t buy anything from them. However…I could see this being a fun change of pace from the every day smooth mani. Last year, I was lying in bed and thinking, “You know, it seems like for anyone to make any real leaps in nail polish trends, they will have to play with textures.” Looks like that was an apt observation!
I hope you review the upcoming OPI Mariah Carey collection for that reason. It is supposed to have a sandy texture to it O_o

I also don’t have much respect for Ciate…both this and their caviar kits are basically stolen ideas from bloggers. That said, I do like this look and intend to try it at some point, but a DIY version.

This is so freakin’ awesome! If it were any company other than Ciate, I would totally buy it. I think your mani looks FAB!
